NEWS 2010
January
The South Tipperary
Business Women's Network began the year with an enjoyable day
at the premises of one of our members, Nina Kati. Nina business is
Working Wonders, which combines interior design with feng shui. She
also tutors in feng shui principles and our day consisted of finding
out about our Chinese horoscopes, how and why we get along with some
people and not others, where to build or buy a house, room layouts and
possible health problems. Suffice to say we were all
fascinated and wanted to know more, especially about our own families!
February
The February meeting was
devoted to learning about social networking and how it can be used as a
business tool. Johnny Beirne travelled from Carrick-on-Shannon to
Clonmel to give the presentation and we had so many questions for him,
he could have stayed all night! We all needed to know more so
a full day training course was arranged by the County Enterprise Board
in conjunction with our member Margaret O'Keeffe's
computer training centre, Compulearn. Now we'll all be
"tweeting" happily. Let's face it ladies,
there's not too much that's free out there so we
should try to take advantage of Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in et al.
March
We hosted a meeting for
Eddie McVeigh, Political Director for the European Commission in March
and Jonathan Fallon of EP Consulting facilitated a very interesting
discussion following the presentation. We provided a buffet for this
event and invited guests from the Dungarvan network and people from
local businesses, followed by a speed networking session which proved
very entertaining and as usual when a group of women get together, it
was a difficult job to get them to stop talking and move on to the next
person!
Other News & Highlights
The President of our network, Rosemary Donovan of the Book Market (winner of the Retailer of the Year Award 2009), was recently invited to be a judge in the schools' business enterprise competition for secondary school students organised by the County Enterprise Board. Rosemary says it was amazing to see such enthusiasm and expertise in these young people and she was very pleased to have been asked to participate. The winners will go on to the regional finals.
